Our Innovations
IBS is a leader in engineering innovation and is the driving force behind the design and production of high quality agricultural and industrial equipment.
We design a range of specialised, innovative equipment which is being utilised by companies across Far North Queensland, as well as overseas, including:
Conveyor Systems
Ozzy Bulldog
Banana Harvesters
IBS custom designs, builds and implements conveyor systems for a number of progressive companies including the Australian Banana Company and The North Queensland Newspapers Group.
The benefits of an IBS conveyor system include:
- Reliability and Durability
Using a chain drive system rather than a rubberband-style system, IBS conveyor systems ensure reliability, durability and longevity in extreme conditions.
- 3D Design
All conveyor systems are designed in 3D CAD to ensure that the system requirements are achieved before actual manufacturing begins. This gives us the flexibility to test the behaviour of the systems and redesign as necessary.
- Multiple Applications
IBS conveyor systems are used predominantly in agricultural industries throughout North Queensland and the Atherton Tablelands, however they can be applied to almost any industry including, publishing, bulk material handling, mining, transportation and food processing.
- Total Customisation
We work with our customers on a personal level to develop systems that suit the specific needs of each application.
- Increase Throughput, Decrease Cost
IBS prides itself in achieving measurable outcomes for their customers in the design and implementation of IBS conveyor systems. By conducting all design and manufacture in-house, costs are minimised, resulting in super efficient systems at a realistic cost.
- Ergonomic Design
All conveyor system components are designed to complement each other, rather than being designed as a separate unit.
- After Sales Service
A comprehensive after-sales service ensures the success, reliability and safety of IBS conveyor systems. 3D designs are kept on record to enable the duplication of a replacement part or assembly.
- Built to Australian Standards
IBS conveyor systems are designed and tested to comply with Australian Standards and are Workplace Health and Safety approved.

Packing and Sorting Systems
IBS was approached by the Australian Banana Company to upgrade their packing and sorting methods from a manual system to a structured, controlled process.
The outcome was a systemised production process which enabled them to break daily output records. The system is high quality, low maintenance and allows better control of carton flow throughout packing sheds, increasing productivity and efficiency.
“IBS came up with a solution that was very successful and allowed us to
save considerable time in operations. The new conveyor system lets us
process the final product at a faster rate and has made our labour
more consistent. We had a very short time for
installation which IBS achieved.”
Craig Hunter, Operations Manager, Australian Banana Company
Streamlining Systems
The Townsville Bulletin (North Queensland Newspapers Group) needed a custom-designed conveyor system which could handle newspapers.
IBS designed and developed solutions for a system which transports bundles of newspapers from stackers to strappers.
“The IBS system is reliable, ergonomically designed and complies with safety
standards. IBS offers a very good service, great follow up and they are
great people to deal with. We have a good relationship with them,
they
are a fantastic team and 100% committed to the project.”
Peter Bull, Production Manager, North Queensland Newspapers Group
The IBS Ozzy Bulldogs are four-wheel drive, all weather, all terrain power ladders. Ozzy Bulldogs are known for being robust and having the grunt to do the job.
Efficiency and Quality The Ozzy Bulldog was designed by IBS to address staffing and weather problems within the banana industry and has been improved dramatically since its introduction in 1993.
Ozzys have proved extremely popular and are in high demand since their introduction to farms in North Queensland where they have assisted in mechanising the industry and improving farm efficiencies.
Application
Ideal for bagging bananas, Ozzy Bulldogs operate similar to a cherry picker. Unlike their three-wheeled counterparts, the Bulldogs have four wheels and are four-wheel-drive, which means they can go just about anywhere.
Ozzys have proven extremely stable in North Queensland’s difficult and muddy conditions, and can operate on uneven, wet and sloping ground.
“The Ozzy Bulldog can save two wages, improve fruit quality
and reduce wastage.”
Built to Australian Standards
IBS Ozzys are designed and tested to comply with Australian standards AS1418-10 Elevating Work Platform and are Workplace Health and Safety friendly. Featuring a low profile 1.6m overall height, 500mm ground clearance and 160 degree slewing boom, Ozzy’s are able to operate on a 20 degree incline with row to row turning circle and bi-directional drive basket.
Standard features include 40HP motor, 4WD with epi-cycle wheel motors, 2 wheel steering, park brakes, bag basket, integrated engine and hydraulic throttle and oil cooler. Overall net weight 1.95 tonnes. Many custom designed options are available including 4-wheel steering, string basket, centering light, boom shock absorber, duster units, spray units, tow bar, basket padding, air system, bag roller and string feeder.

Banana farmers identified the need to mechanise the banana industry, address labour shortages and improve productivity and IBS were approached to develop a mechanical harvester for the banana industry.
IBS researched and developed the concept of a banana harvester further using their innovation and in-house design systems. Kanga Australia has taken the Banana Harvester concept to the next step and is currently manufacturing a market-ready product.
The new Banana Harvesters will reduce fruit damage and increase bunch sizes because the harvesters can carry up to 80 kilograms, giving farmers a bigger return per hectare.
